More and more people are taking to the roads on a cycle than ever before. Cycling keeps you fit and healthy, it is far better for the planet and costs a small fraction of what a car or public transport would cost. It is also a great family activity that can be enjoyed together.
However, the level of tolerance from other road users is still pitifully low. These people sit in their UK used cars, burning up petrol and polluting the planet and yet you would think that it was us cyclists who were the guilty ones!
They seem to have little regard for road safety and drive dangerously close to cyclists when overtaking, often forcing them onto the pavement. This can be off-putting for even a hardened cyclist but terrifying for those youngsters just learning to ride or the elderly.
You do have to have your wits about you as a cyclist nowadays. You need to have eyes in the back of your head, especially as some of the larger trucks cannot even see the cyclist behind due to limited visibility.
All we ask is, please have more patience for us cyclists – we recognise that many of today’s roads were not built with the co-existence of cars and bicycles in mind and both parties have to do their best to keep safe.
